Greetings!

It has been quite some time since the last issue (May of 2000 was the last issue).  What has been going on since May?  Why the unauthorized, unexcused, unacceptable, unapproved hiatus?  Check the Featured Writer section for complete details.

rosarymakers.org will be the Rosary Makers E-Zine's new home beginning April 1st.  That website will be a storehouse for resources, classifieds (both items your looking to buy and items your looking to sell), as well as all of your links.  We also pray to have a bulletin board there for prayer intentions.  The possibilities are endless.  If any ideas come to mind, please send me an e-mail.

Thanks for being a subscriber.

God Bless You Real Good In Your Rosary Making Efforts This Month!

Patrick

FROM THE MAY 2000 E-ZINE:
***************************************************************************************************
The following is a personal account on praying the rosary.  Perhaps you would be willing to share how your devotion to the rosary started and/or how you currently pray the rosary.  Please consider sending in your story.

The Healing Rosary of Our Mother of Perpetual Help
"The World's Most Popular Madonna"

Last month, this section listed information on The Healing Rosary of Our Mother of Perpetual Help.  I was introduced to this rosary through Detroit Catholic Radio over a year ago (It is played every evening at 7 PM).  I found myself immediately drawn to it.  The soothing music in the background, the almost hypnotic voice of the meditations and prayers just drew me in.    I had to have a copy.  Well, the information provided at the end of the recording wasn't valid;  the website was no longer around.  So, I scoured the internet in hopes of finding it and I did.  I ordered a copy for myself.  The only problem was, it wasn't available on CD (I wanted the CD so I could pray it in the car).  For my birthday this year, a friend provided me with a homemade CD version of the recording.  I now pray it every day in the car.  I have found that my commute time is so much more relaxing (and praying the rosary while driving has pretty much eliminated road rage).  Thank You God For The Healing Rosary Of Our Mother Of Perpetual Help!  My prayer is that it will be available again soon so that more and more people can partake in this beautiful recording.
****************************************************************************************************

UPDATE:  My prayers have been answered!  Thank You Jesus!!!  This recording is available once again.
The WHAT'S NEW PAGE at Seeds of Faith has the details.

----------------------------------------------------
Featured in this section this month are:
The Chaplet of St. Patrick
and

The Irish Penal Rosary
and
The Chaplet of St. Joseph
+ There will be one or more devotions/chaplets featured in this section every month. +
----------------------------------------------------

The Chaplet of St. Patrick

This chaplet is comprised of 4 groups of 3 beads.  A St. Patrick Medal is used in place of the crucifix.  The pendant portion of the chaplet has the medal attached to it.  The groups of beads are all on the circle portion of the chaplet.

Intention: Through the intercession of St. Patrick, may God Almighty strengthen one's faith, and grant the grace of faith for others.

Prayer on the Medal: The Apostle's Creed

On each of the twelve green beads: Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

BREASTPLATE OF ST. PATRICK
(said in closing)

Christ is a light,
Illumine and guide me!
Christ as a shield, o'ershadow and cover me!
Christ be under me! Christ be over me!
Christ be beside me, On the left hand and right!
Christ be before me, behind me, about me;
Christ this day be within and without me!

from Hymn Before Tara

The Irish Penal Rosary
AKA
An Paidrin Beag

This chaplet takes its name from the times in Ireland when there where penalties for having religious objects.

It is, we believe, the original (if not, then the most important - okay I'm biased) single decade rosary.
It is comprised of 1 pater and 10 aves.
On one end is a keyring and on the other is an Irish Penal Crucifix.
We have seen it both ways (the pater nearest the ring or the crucifix).

The way this rosary was used:
One would place the keyring over the thumb and pray the opening prayers and first decade.
The keyring would then be moved to the index finger for the 2nd decade, ring finger for the 3rd decade, and so on.

The Penal Crucifix has many of symbols of Christ's Passion.
On the front:
The INRI is prominently placed at the top.  This is the charge;  the entire excuse.
Below Christ's right hand is a jug or chalice representing The Last Supper.
Surrounding Christ's head is a halo of thorns reminding us of his crowning.
Above Christ's left hand is a hammer which reminds us of Jesus' being nailed to the Cross.
Below His left hand and at his right knee are cords which were used to bind Him for His scourging at the pillar and then eventually to the Cross.
Below Him and off to His right is the spear or lance which was used to pierce His side.
To His left are a series of ].  Nine and one half ].  We are not sure what these are.
Below His feet at the base of the crucifix is what appears to be a basin.  (Not sure of the meaning.)
On the back:
At the center are three nails which were used to nail Him to the Cross.
At the base are the cock and pot which represent the roasting cock which came to life and crowed prophesizing Judas' betrayal of Christ.
----------------------------------------------------
The Rosary Workshop has a georgeous traditional Irish Penal Rosary where you can view the Irish Penal Crucifix.
----------------------------------------------------

The Chaplet of Saint Joseph

This chaplet is comprised of 15 groups of 4 beads.  Each group consists of 1 white bead and 3 purple beads.
( The white beads represent St. Joseph's purity and the purple beads represent his saintly piety.)
A St. Joseph Medal is used in place of the crucifix.  The pendant portion of the chaplet has the first group of beads and the white bead for the 2nd group.  The purple beads for the second group begin the circle portion of the chaplet.  The remaining 13 groups follow in order.

On each white bead, reflect on a mystery of the rosary and say the Hail Mary twice.

On each purple bead, say 'Praised and blessed be Jesus, Mary and Joseph'

Concluding Prayers (after the 15 groups):
Pray for us, O Holy St. Joseph.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
O God, Who has predestined St. Joseph from all eternity for the service of Thine eternal Son and His Blessed Mother, and made him worthy to be the spouse of this blessed Virgin, and the foster-father of Thy Son:  We beseech Thee, through all the services he has rendered to Jesus and Mary on earth, that Thou wouldst make us worthy of his intercession, and grant us to enjoy the happiness of his company in heaven.  Through Christ, Our Lord.  Amen.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN LATELY?
By Patrick J. Distelrath

The last issue of this e-zine was May of 2000.  It now being March of 2001, it begs the question.

Well, June of last year found our family of 3 kids (momma was 8 months pregnant at the time) going on 2 pilgrimages within a couple of weeks.
The first one was to Our Lady of the Woods in Mio, Michigan (impromptu, just happened to drive by) on our way to Cross in the Woods in Indian River, Michigan.  It was absolutely wonderful.  (I hope to post more details some day.)  We go to Cross in the Woods almost every year.  We prepared our girls (6, 4, and 2 or close enough) by telling them we are going to see this huge, huge cross, ya know, in the woods.  Well, when we got there, we stood them out in front of the cross near the street (the cross there is not more than 10 feet tall).  To our surprise they were disappointed!  Well, when we got to THE Cross in the Woods they were awestruck.  The Cross in the Woods is a 55 foot redwood cross with a 7 ton bronze corpse.  Check it out.
The second one was to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio and the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Euclid, Ohio. This pilgrimage ended up being on the hottest days of the summer!  The other couple that was with us was 6 months pregnant.  That mom-to-be looked further along than ours.  Needless to say, it was a difficult cross to bear for them on those days.  The Sorrowful Mother Shrine requires a great deal of walking to each of the grottos/shrines.  Every one of the shrines is magnificent.  The Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine is much more confined.  There is an outdoor fifteen decade rosary on the path behind the shrine that is amazing.  We didn't make it to the outdoor stations of the cross, but we did get a picture of the pregnant women in front of the entrance.  There were very large letters at the top THE WAY OF THE CROSS;  2 pregnant ladies standing in front.  I'll have to pull the picture for you!
Alright already, am I going to get to the point?  Well, the last few weeks of mommas pregnancy required a great deal of my time, hence the lack of time for publishing an e-zine.  The months that followed required much more of mom's time with our new blessing.  It was at least 6 months before she was able to help again making rosaries.  All my time was spent trying to keep up with the rosary-making.  (We completely shut down for at least 4 weeks.)  With no time for publishing an e-zine, we went on an unofficial, unauthorized, unapproved, unacceptable(?) hiatus.  We do send a thousand apologies for not explaining and not communicating what was going on.  The first of the month would be approaching and I would think that it would be the month to get the e-zine going again.  Well, 9 of those came and went and the tenth this month.  I had good intentions of getting this published the first of this month.  But wouldn't you know it, I got sick.
Please accept our apologies for the long hiatus.  We pray things are on course now for the April 1st deadline.  (If you have anything to submit, please get it to me by the 25th.)
Take care of yourselves.  God Bless You Real Good!

Patrick

I hope you have a story to tell.  Please share it for the next issue.
